COMPANION RESCUE TRAINING COURSE
LOCATION: BIG WHITE SKI RESORT 2011/2012 COURSE DATES Saturday, December 17 Additional courses will be scheduled as required New for the 2011-12 winter season is a one-day Companion Rescue Skills course. The high quality instructional and reference materials provided to licensed AST providers promote an effective learning progression from the AST 1. The Companion Rescue Skills course builds on an AST 1 decision-making foundation. Based on the most advanced knowledge available, the Companion Rescue Skills course is suitable for people with AST 1 training, recent or not, and may be taken on a yearly basis. The Companion Rescue Skills course is aimed at all backcountry recreationists: skiers, snowboarders, snowmobilers and snowshoers. Companion Rescue Program Overview • Course outline includes; Prioritize actions if caught in an avalanche; Understand the function of airbags; Understand transceiver functions and practice transceiver skills; Apply search and rescue techniques; Practice searching without a transceiver; Consider multiple burial situations; Organize a group rescue; Identify post-incident considerations. 8hrs of field instruction at Big White Course fee - $100 (15% discount to Big White Staff only) Participants are responsible for equipment, lift passes, & accommodation This course is a prerequisite to the Introductory Avalanche Skills Training Level 1, and you will receive a certificate upon completion This course is registered with the Canadian Avalanche Centre
